How to survive the heatwave of summer

Australia is a summer paradise if there was one, clear blue skies, majestic surf, pristine beaches, it's definitely the perfect weather for outdoor activities. Before the family dives into that bucket list of sports and activities, make sure you do these tips so we can all have a healthy and dangerous-free summer.

Drink plenty of water. This is especially crucial in this heatwave. Less exhausted, weakness and less prone to passing out. Hydrate with at least two liters of water every day, if more better! When out and about with the family, do not forget to bring your insulated stainless steel water bottles, nothing like a refreshing cool drink as you scurry around Down Under.

Follow the "Slip, Slop, Slap" campaign that reminds the public to "slip" on a shirt, "slop" on a sunscreen, and "slap" on a hat. Nothing beats the old public advisory as it is important to make sure we're protected from UV rays. Many of you might now be practicing the updated campaign of "seek" shade and "slide" on some sunglasses.

Plan your activities accordingly. Yes, it's time for the outdoorsies to enjoy the summer but remember to not stay too long outside. Pick the time of the day where it is slightly cooler and more pleasant. Plan the family activities ahead and opt to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day.

While you're planning, include checking the forecasts for heatwaves before any planned activities with the family. This allows you to know what to expect during your trip and activity. It is always also best to know the symptoms of heat exhaustion as when doing physical exertion at high temperatures with inadequate hydration is very dangerous. Nausea, headache, muscle cramps, fatigue are some to name a few.

While having fun, eating is always playes a big part of the family activity, always remember to eat light, but right. Take light frequent meals together so you get the right essentials for the physical activities you are about to partake in as a family. Choose a mix of salads, fruits and fresh juices, and cold food, like pasta!

As Australia's summers can be absolutely scorching, you need to know how to look after the family. Stay cool and comfortable during the summer, armed with these tips, you'll definitely enjoy the Australian heatwave as you take in the country's amazing beaches, landscapes and breathtaking views.
